Lesson: Making a Web page containing a bird-count graph
Part 1: ClarisWorks

Overview of process

Step 1: Either create a new ClarisWorks file by selecting "New…" from the File menu.

Or, if a "Bird Count Template" file is available, merely double click on that file's icon to open the spreadsheet; then go to Step 3.

Step 2: Select "Spreadsheet" as the new document type; then click "OK."

Step 3: After entering the data for your observations, click (and hold the mouse button down) on the upper left cell of the "data rectangle" which you want to graph.

Step 4: While holding the mouse button down, drag to the lower right cell of the "data rectangle" which you want to graph.

Step 5: Release the mouse button.

Step 6: Select "Make Chart…" from the Options menu.

Step 7: After formatting your graph, click on the graph. Notice the edit handles which tell you that the graph is selected.

Step 8: Copy your graph to the Clipboard by selecting "Copy" from the Edit menu.

The next steps require converting the image on the Clipboard to a Web format such as GIF or JPEG. An application such as GraphicConverter easily performs such conversion.
