The following highlights summarize Project rationale and what we expect our students to achieve:
1. Interdisciplinary teaching: Students will incorporate math, science, language arts, social studies and art in researching, planning and predicting.
2. Hands on practice with scientific equipment and computer technology to research relevant community issues at the Ballona Wetlands, measuring PH levels, temperature, clarity, toxicity, dissolved substances, etc.
3. Working with community and city agencies such as Culver City Waste Management, the Hyperion Water Treatment Plant, the Audubon Society and more, which will connect our students with mentoring and career options.
4. On going data collection and analysis, which can be studied and evaluated year after year.
5. Equipment resources which will remain at the school for student use yearly.
6. Student realizations that their research is relevant and applicable to community issues and how education and research can provide answers to local problems.
7. Program extensions from and into projects being done at the Elementary Schools and Culver City High School.
